I'm so glad you were able to have that experience too. Like you, I'm am already beyond eager to return!Mr. Tinyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16646297018044505890noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3215568693807799004.post-27603009860224800152016-07-21T02:32:18.024-07:002016-07-21T02:32:18.024-07:00New reader here...

On an all-too-brief trip to France, the country that supplied the majority of my DNA, I was completely shocked - in a good way - by how many people looked like the withering remains of my family tree. OMG, that kid looks like my brother...OMG, that guy looks like my grandfather when he was young...OMG, that old lady looks like Great-Aunt Marie...OMG, that lady looks like my mom...OMG, that girl looks like ME!...you get the idea.

Even though I am one of the least stereotypically French people you will ever meet (I have never smoked, I don't like wine, I'm not rail thin, etc.), I finally felt like I fit in somewhere. And I've been itching to go back ever since.

Now if I can just get people to stop insisting I "must" be Italian...C.C. de Verehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13796598131362510000noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3215568693807799004.post-41710216944653289752016-07-20T20:51:26.848-07:002016-07-20T20:51:26.848-07:00Thank you! Typically I would have but we kind of left at the last minute with no solid plan. I'm going to start learning so I'll be prepared for our next visit.Mr. Tinyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16646297018044505890noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3215568693807799004.post-43351651409004378722016-07-20T20:48:08.914-07:002016-07-20T20:48:08.914-07:00Okay...confession time. I hope you make it to Italy soon; it's such a neat experience to find your roots (even for just a short time). If you don't already, be sure to follow The Travelling Pantaloni blog and on IG. It focuses mainly on amazing adventures in Sicily with tons of incredible photos!Mr. Tinyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16646297018044505890noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3215568693807799004.post-38474775913714212322016-07-20T20:42:23.719-07:002016-07-20T20:42:23.719-07:00Thank you! It got even better!
I was always envious of people who know about their heritage as well. My dad's side is Pennsylvania dutch, but my mom's side of the family seems to have no idea, and doesn't care. I'm not a genealogy person either, but just a country of origin would be nice to know!Rae - Say It Aint Sohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16066975427295830641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3215568693807799004.post-82003767253029368792016-07-20T05:39:38.475-07:002016-07-20T05:39:38.475-07:00Great and funny post with pretty pictures. I suppose that makes sense since half of me is Italian/Sicilian. My significant other doesn't know too much about his ancestry other than that his family is of some Eastern European strong-like-bull stock. In the malls in Edinburgh we saw many versions of my two beautiful sisters, and Norm said he saw the many Lucilles he's lived with for all these years. I feel at home in Scotland.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
